DVF Dress with Nikita Cat Eye Tom Fords

Fashion, Style

I have loved Kourtney Kardashian‘s cat eye sunglasses from the moment I saw them.  Here she is wearing the Nikita by Tom Ford along with her fab riding boots:

I decided to pair the amazing frames with this Aztec-ish, DVF, body hugging dress.  A fun way to mix things up is by pairing simple, streamline dresses like this one, with very structured accessories.  The jacket is called the “long blazer” implying structure in it’s name.  It works well with the dress because of the contrast.  I like that when you take the coat off your shape looks that much more amazing because nobody was expecting it.

This clutch is amazing and very architectural.  It pairs very well with the color blocked Louboutins.  The earrings add the perfect, face framing pop of color.  If you’re not a fan of color swap them out for something a little bit more understated (but how could you not like these?!)  This outfit is very New York.  Love it!

Hot Pink Jeans Can Be Sophisticated

Fashion, Style

Who says hot pink denim can’t look chic?  The trick is to buy the denim in a simple cut with sleek lines.  It’s also imperative to keep the rest of the outfit simple and classic.  If you go too over the top with the other aspects of the outfit, it could end up looking tacky or cheap.I love this leopard print jacket.  Although it may not qualify as simple, it is very reminicent of Jackie O. (pictured here) in her Oleg Cassini jacket.  The pink, straight-leg jeans, leather details on the shirt and the nude patent bag give a classic look quite a twist.

Playing around with colors, patterns and textures in classic outfits is an easy way to freshen up a look.  I mean, that outfit is basically just a white collared shirt, jeans and black heels, but it looks like a whole lot more!

Bright Jeans and Tan Shirts

Fashion, Style

Two things I’m loving right now:

– bright denim

– the Sachin +Babi fringed top pictured below

I love the pairing of a tan shirt with bright jeans. I think it adds a level of sophistication to something that could otherwise appear childish.

If you’re feeling adventurous try pairing a bright jean with a contrasting colored bag, like this red L.A.M.B. convertible clutch. If pairing two bold colors isn’t your thing than go with a neutral bag, but patterned to add something unique. This Diane von Furstenberg clutch can really make an outfit!

When it comes to an already busy outfit, like this one, try to keep the shoes neutral. When in doubt, a black flat, heel or wedge (whatever your preference) will usually work.

Here are some more affordable pieces that can give you the same effect:

Remember to never be afraid of color! When used the right way, it can be your best friend.
