Metallic Mulberry Top

Fashion, Style

Metallic’s are hot right now and an unexpected way to work them into your wardrobe is through your tops.  A lot of people are wearing gold and silver jeans, but this pleated Mulberry shirt is a perfect example of how to put an unexpected twist on one of the latest trends.
Because the shirt is such a statement piece the rest of the outfit should be kept relatively simple in terms of shape and color.  The black Lanvin skirt compliments the shirt without overpowering it.  I wouldn’t describe the clutch as simple, but it’s a little pop of fun.

The booties are amazing, and while they do make a statement they don’t overwhelm the ensemble, simply add to it.  The jewelry ties the bright gold of the clutch in with the rest of the outfit and plays off of the metallic theme.

Sometimes when wearing metallics I think it’s fun to work in more than one shade, like gold and silver.  But I think this shirt needs a plain palate to play off of so I stuck to black.  I love this look, and the top is one of my favorite items right now!

Jason Wu Tuxedo Jacket; Fall 2011

Fashion, Style

I love mixing menswear shapes with girly or sexy touches in an outfit.  This tuxedo jacket from Jason Wu’s fall RTW collection is amazing and very versitile.  Here’s the look on the runway:

Although I love this look, I like adding more feminine flair when I wear a blazer or a tuxedo jacket.  Pairing it with a corset is a sexy look.  It’s less androgynous and is a great way to look feminine, sexy and powerful all at the same time.

Another way you could wear this jacket is with a dress.  A lot of celebrities have been pairing gowns with blazers, but my personal favorite has been Sarah Jessica Parker in Oscar de la Renta:

Pairing a gown with a tuxedo jacket wouldn’t really work, unless the gown was very simple.  The idea behind this look, at least for me, is pairing a dress with a contrasting jacket…so if your dress is fancy, wear a casual jacket…if your dress is more casual, wear a fancier jacket.  Here’s the tuxedo jacket (fancy) paired with a more casual dress:

A patterned jean is a great item to add to your wardrobe.  (Here’s another, less expensive option.)  It’s a statement piece that can work with many types of outfits.  They also add unexpected depth to an outfit.  A lot of people wear patterned shirts, but not everyone wears patterned jeans.

Casual Fab

I love this look.  It’s casual glamourous (depending on where you are of course.)  In New York this is a great outfit to catch some eyes on the sidewalk.  Trust me, nobody will forget these pants!
