Visual Vacation In Luxury

Fashion, Luxury, Style

Everybody knows that winters in the Northeast aren’t pleasant. It’s bone chilling days like this that make me fantasize about the warm spring ones that are soon to come. Until those April showers bring the May flowers, this outfit will just have to do:
visual vacation in reality

MOSCHINO CHEAP AND CHIC shirt / HAUTE HIPPIE jeans / COMME DES GARÇONS jacket / FREE PEOPLE backpack / ISABEL MARANT sneakers / RAIF hat / LINDA FARROW sunglasses

The semi-sheer, silk top is on trend and has a pretty graphic that instantly stirs thoughts of 76 degree weather. I love the floral pant and graphic shirt combination, which is a play on the trend of mixing prints. The stripes on the letterman jacket add another layer of texture and print giving the outfit plenty of depth. The quirkiness of this look is what makes it so great for me. It almost doesn’t work, but after five minutes of analytical staring I ended up falling in love with it.

Sneaker wedges are another trend I love. My favorites are Giuseppi Zanotti (left) and Isabel Marant (right):

You can find the Giuseppe’s at FarFetch.com and the Isabel Marant’s at AlwaysFashion.com. The great thing about sneaker wedges is you don’t have to have a ton of money to buy a good looking pair. These are two of my less expensive favorites:

The black and white are by Steve Madden and cost $150 and the green pair is by Jeffrey Campbell and is on sale for $115. The perfect in between option is by Ash. I love the design of their shoes. They are very streamlined and more reminiscent of an actual heel than most of the other sneaker wedges I’ve seen:

You can find these at ASOS.com. Come back tomorrow to check out a similar look fit for a smaller budget.

Fur vs Faux

Fashion, Luxury, Reality, Style

You’d have to be blind to not realize that fur is hot right now.  I used this beautiful Alexander Wang puffer jacket before, but I love the blue of this fur by The Row.

THE ROW Coat / ISABEL MARANT Jeans / 3.1 PHILLIP LIM Sweater / GIUSEPPE ZANOTTI Booties / VALENTINO Bag / MEADOWLARK Earrings / RAY-BAN Sunglasses / DENIS COLOMB Scarf

Pairing the soft, powder blue fur with black and tan gives us an interesting color palate.  The amazing Isabel Marant studded jeans and the black Valentino Rockstud bag add a rock and roll vibe to an otherwise tame ensemble.  The jeans bring unexpected texture to the outfit:

Studded jeans have the potential to look overdone or tacky, but not these Isabel Marants.  They are probably the closest you can get to looking elegant in studded denim.  The side and pockets are trimmed with leather which adds some sophistication.  The fringed sides bring amazing texture to any outfit, and the studs are just great.  I really like that they’re not put on perfectly.  It adds character.

Although it would be nice to be able to buy that gorgeous fur, it’s simply an impossibility for most (myself included.)  Topshop makes a lot of faux fur.  (They’re very good at making runway trends accessible to the masses.)  I love this paneled fur:

TOPSHOP Coat  $220 / TOPSHOP Jeans  $100 OASIS Shirt $29 / PROMISE Booties  $50 MANGO Bag  $88 /       VINCENZA Earrings  $7 NASTY GAL Sunglasses  $18 MODSTROM Scarf $41

The idea behind the outfit is similar, but everything (excluding the jacket, which costs $220,) costs $100 or less.  It’s a change in color scheme, but the studs are still there.  The jeans are from Topshop, and though they don’t quite match up to the Isabel Marant jeans, they’ll fit the bill:

The sunglasses are eerily similar to Ray-Bans, my go to sunglasses, but only cost $18.  This is a great outfit with very reusable pieces.

Blush Coat Two Ways: Casual

Fashion, Style

I love dressing for winter.  There are so many textures and rich colors to play around with.  I’m loving maroon/burgundy colors for the fall and winter.  (You’ll be seeing a lot of them here the next couple of days!)  I also think the color is so beautiful against the blush color of the coat.

This knit is so wonderful.  I think that a beautiful cable knit should be a staple of everyone’s winter wardrobes.  It should be cozy, but fitted enough to look put together.  The black scarf is so great (who could complain about Burberry cashmere?)  I love scarves and think everyone should have at least a black one and a white one. They are really a great way to add depth to an outfit.

I also really love matching the bag to the pants.  It’s a play on the monochromatic trend without being too literal.  And the shoes and earrings are phenom.  All of the elements come together to make a beautiful fall-to-winter transitory outfit.
